Garage Building Plans
There is a long list of mistakes that can be made when undertaking a major project such as building a garage. Have you thought about these??
1- Adequate foundation support and reinforcing.
2- Maximum span lengths per truss or joist.
3- Reinforcements or post supports at headers.
4- Roof slope, overhang width and effect on clearance.
5- Proper and secure tie-ins to existing structure.
6- Waterproofing requirements at roof connection to existing structure.
How can garage building plans help? Well for one if you are tying to an existing house with your garage, you must be very careful with structural and water sealing issues. But you realize this and many other potential problems you must face. Mistakes can be costly. I like to have all the help and advice I can get on this type of venture. I’m fortunate to have some experienced carpenters I can call on for advice. But I want more than that too. I don’t do a lot of large projects or very often and I like to “read up” on them as I am getting started.
Well there are many ways to get this help.
Not too long ago the only resources, besides that experienced friend, was the small building plan books sold in the lumber supply stores. Now these are not all bad. And, we’ve all used them, or at least gotten some ideas from them. But I want to tell you a about a much better way!
Now with the Internet at our fingers we can do so many more things and get so much more information. This goes for Garage Building Plans too.
Check out this extensive web site with almost every conceivable project, large or small. It is a weekender and a professional’s dream. To find out more about their “Library” of thousands of projects CLICK HERE. You can spend hours looking through the plans there! And there are several garage plans available. In fact, a search of the site brings up over 100 results for “garage plans”.
You may also go directly to the SHED PLANS section.
Why buy just a plan book when you can have a WHOLE LIBRARY??
I love doing this type project. But I hate the preparation, getting the materials together… and most of all I hate it when I realizing that I forgot something and have to waste my time going back to the supply store again… and again.
There are three main reasons that I like to have real good plans for my larger projects: 1- Saves me time getting together the materials. 2- Helps me with the DETAILS. Even if I know them, it’s good to have reminders. And 3- I feel safer and can enjoy the building and not worry about what I forgot. These plans will help you with planning. By having a step-by-step plan I don’t forget something important. It maybe electrical, plumbing, insulation…. you’ve been there too. It’s just too easy to forget. Or not remember
I challenge you is to try a better way. Heck, if you don’t think the Woodworking4Home is worth it… tell them too give you your money back. They guarantee it – see below:
Here is the quote from the developer John Metz:
“I want to prove everything I claim to you. Download Woodworking4home right now and keep it for a full 60 days. If it isn’t everything I’ve said, I do not want your money. Simply send a quick e-mail, and you’ll get every penny back – NO questions asked. Heck, I’ll even let you keep all the bonuses – on the house!”
And John Metz depends on his reputation as a master craftsman… he’ll keep that promise! (but he hasn’t had to many times… you’ll see)

Here’s to a great new garage
- go for it!!

Woodworking Tools and Saving Money
Here is an article written and published by Kim Wilson on tools needed for projects such as “how to build a garage” as well as other woodworking. Hope this will help:
Initially when people choose to take up woodworking as a hobby they don’t have the money available to invest in high quality woodworking tools. Instead what many will choose to do is purchase second hand and then as their skill levels improve so they can consider investing in much better tools later on.
However, as with the purchase of any items you need to be very wary otherwise you could end up buying tools that are completely useless. So to this end we offer some advice that you may find useful when wanting to purchase used woodworking tools in the future.
1. Selecting The Right Seller
For those who are only taking up woodworking as a hobby then items such as this can be purchased from car boot sales or at auction sites such as eBay or through classified ads. However, if the tools you are purchasing are going to be used to earn an income then you are far better of going to a specialist seller.
If you are intending to purchase yours through classified ads or auction sites be wary as the previous owners may not have cared for the tools properly. However, by purchasing through a reputable dealer will ensure that the items will have been checked over and any repairs carried out.
2. Are Reconditioned Tools Worth Considering?
Along with the manual items you will have to purchase some electrical powered machines as well. Although you can invest money in new equipment it is worth considering investing in machines that have been reconditioned. However, before you do purchase some of these items ask the seller to provide in depth details of what parts of the equipment have been reconditioned and why? Ideally look for those machines that have had money spent on the internal components especially within the motor as this will ensure that it works at optimum levels. Plus of course the lifespan of the machine will be increased.
3. Get The Right WoodWorking Tools For The Job
To determine what woodworking tools it is you need you should look closely at the kinds of projects you intend to carry out. Why spend thousands of dollars on a top of the range router when a cheaper basic model will suffice. Remember the whole point of purchasing used or reconditioned tools for your woodworking projects is to initially save you money.
I hope this has helped some.

Garage Plans: Being Your Own Contractor
Trying To Save Money By Acting As Your Own Contractor Requires Good Garage Plans
There are many good reasons for constructing a garage. The weather conditions and being able to get to your car is of course the most often thought of as the best reason. One more is renovating the old garage into living area and then adding on a new garage.
Closing in an old garage can be a good economic choice. A lot of times the garage is connected in a way that will probably not be to expensive to convert it into a family room, play room, or others. It can be less costly to then construct a free standing or connected garage for the car.
If you have experience and knowledge of building you could save money on your building projects by being the general contractor on your own. This may be from merely purchasing the materials yourself or going all the way and taking complete responsibility for the building and renovating.
The most essential part of being a contractor on your garage is having real good plans. You might decide to go to an architect but that would probably be very expensive and counterproductive to doing this project on a strict budget. There are very some good garage plans online that can not only save you the money on architectural designs but have many other things like material lists that can help with material purchases and shopping for the right prices.
As the contractor you can do the hiring of the individual subcontractors. This would include carpenters or framers, electricians, plumbers, etc. Having a real good and precise set of building plans is vital especially in the carpentry part.
There may be a benefit with local permits and requirement to being your own contractor in most counties and cities. Electricians and many times plumbers are required to have their own permits and inspections of their work but as your own contractor you may not be required to have a general permit and pay the standard government fee.
Good plans will get you off to the best start with your construction project and allow you to save a great deal of your money. With the correct plans you can see the complete project and control your cost from the very beginning.
